Over 40 Years and Still Causing a Stir!
The company that currently produces and distributes an award–winning line of gourmet products that includes cocktail garnishes, appetizers, condiments and sauces, was started based on the creation of one item − Russian Mustard. The mustard was an instant success and was featured in Esquire Magazine − full-colored centerfold! − as the gift to give to men that year. Soon after the centerfold appearance, Neiman Marcus placed an order for the mustard and so starts the story of this successful company.
Sable & Rosenfeld was co-founded in 1970 by Myra Sable and, former partner, Carol Rosenfeld in Toronto, Canada. Sable was writing restaurant reviews for the local paper and interviewed Rosenfeld, a Toronto chef. Their mutual love of cooking led to the formation of Sable & Rosenfeld, which today is one of Canada's most successful, privately owned gourmet food companies and employs over 200 people.
Good ideas + a good product + perfect timing = a successful product. The 1980's saw the revival of martinis, manhattans and gimlets as the "fashionable drinks" of the party scene. The ladies knew their market and the introduction of Sable & Rosenfeld's Tipsy Olives, Tipsy Onions and Tipsy Cherries, three of the most innovative cocktail garnishes of the 80's, helped strengthen the brand name.
Many of the products are all natural and, much to our delight, are kosher. We sampled several of the kosher products and enjoyed every taste and sip:
Spicy Olive Bruschetta: Perfect mixture of chipped black and green olives, capers, carrots, cauliflower, jalapeño and habanera peppers blended with herbs and spices in extra virgin olive oil. Spread on pizza, on sandwiches, as a dip with crackers; we mixed it into our spaghetti sauce and guacamole – it spiced them up deliciously! All natural, gluten free.
Vodka Fiery Tipsy Olives: Colossal Spanish olives, hand–stuffed with a volcanic Turkish pepper and bathed in Vodka. This adds a zing to cocktails – The Mexican Mary – and can be included on a cheese tray, or served alone as part of an hors d'oeuvre spread. They will shine! All natural, gluten free.
Vermouth Tipsy Olives: Stuffed with pimento paste, these are a must for the perfect martini or just as a good nibbled on their own. Tipsy Olives are bathed and packaged in French Vermouth. No need to add vermouth to your martini. We used a double olive for our martini! Gluten free.
Whiskey Tipsy Cherries: "Cocktail ready" long stemmed colossal cherries spiked with Malt Whiskey. Perfect for the classic Manhattan and the trend setting Vogue Martini. We like them as a topping on our whipped cream garnished ice cream sundae. Or just serve them alone for dessert - adults only, of course! Also try Tipsy Cherries in the Snow. Gluten free.
Vermouth Tipsy Onions: For sure to be your favorite pickled silver skin onions. Tipsy Onions are bathed and packaged in French Vermouth. The perfect Gibson martini match – The Dry Gibson. Also a great hors d'oeuvre item – Onion Roll–Up. Gluten free.
Tipsy Cocktail Stirrers: The newest addition to the “tipsy” line of cocktail condiments is the ultimate cocktail garnish! Each hand-packed skewer is made up of a crunchy pickle, green olive, a slice of red pepper and a pearl onion bathed in a subtle brine with just a hint of garlic and dill. A unique garnish for Bloody Mary's, Martini's or your favorite cocktail. A quick condiment for a signature sandwich, relish tray, or smoked deli meats. Love the look and taste of these - such a fun item and it dresses up a drink or tray. Gluten free.
3 Pepper Blast Sweet Dip: The heat of jalapeño blended perfectly with the sweetness of red and green peppers. More than just a relish. It is sweet, slightly hot, definitely zesty and can be used as a dip for nachos or blend with cream cheese – 3 Pepper Blast Dip – and spread on crackers. Can also be served alongside chicken, eggs, steak, or grilled fish. All natural, fat free.
The Sable & Rosenfeld products that are kosher are certified under the EarthKosher certification. Do check the labels. As the "Tipsy" line of products contains alcohol, we do not recommend them for minors who may be in attendance.
The products are so unique and delicious that your imagination is the limit on ways to incorporate them into the menu. We would love to hear some of your ideas, so please share them with us.
Sable & Rosenfeld gourmet products are not only delicious to taste, they also are visually appealing and whet the appetite – perfect for a hostess or thank you gift or just to gift to someone you care about.
