If you really enjoy fresh fruit and vegetable juices and want the ability to make your own, with no additives and from the freshest available ingredients, try the Breville Compact Juice Fountain BJE200XL 700-Watt Compact Juicer (approx. $99).
How does it work?
We washed and peeled 20 oranges and 8 grapefruits. Then we placed the whole oranges into the wide chute of this electric wizard — pressed the ON button and voila — 1/2 gallon of fresh, natural orange juice. We emptied the orange pulp from the filter (more about this below), rinsed the stainless steel pulp catcher and turned the juicer back on with the grapefruits in the chute and voila — 1 quart of fresh grapefruit juice. And, finally we filled the Breville chute with 6 whole unpeeled apples. The result: 1 pint of sweet, fresh apple juice.
The quality of the juice is of course dependent on the quality of the fruit. Since we used fresh Florida citrus for these tests, the citrus juices were especially delicious!
The Breville juicer takes up about the same counter space as a stand mixer and works on veggies as well... Go to Brevilleusa.com for more information.
By the way, we saved the orange pulp and some peel, boiled them with water, lemon juice and sugar, and made homemade marmalade. Delicious!
